Building Our First Experimental Aircraft

Mission

A group of aviation students from International College of Aeronautics (ICA), Nigeria arrived on May 9th, 2018 to Zenith Aircraft Company in Mexico, Missouri to construct an experimental CH-750 airplane. These students have completed the first two years in applied aviation science at ICA in Nigeria before embarking on this journey. They will complete building the aircraft before shipping it to Nigeria. This is an historic and great experience in the Nigerian community.

Goals and Objectives

  • Complete airplane construction (airframe, engines, instruments and certification) by 1/1/2019
  • Utilize the aircraft for entrepreneurship, training, broadcasting, sightseeing, search and rescue, sports, and security.

Building the CH-750 Aircraft

Light Sport aircraft (LSA) are small aircrafts that meet the regulations for weight and performance set by the National Aviation Authority. The CH-750 STOL is part of the family of Light Sport Aircrafts(usually 1320 Ibs in weight). Our building team chose Zenith Kit Airplane for this project because it has STOL ( Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities which will be ideal for the environment in Nigeria. This is a perfect craft for a grass strip or unpaved surface which does not require more than 500 feet of space for takeoffs and landings. It will be certified and test flown before being shipped to Nigeria to meet Federal Aviaiton Administration (FAA) regulation in US. In Nigeria, the airplane will be regulated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA).

She completed an online ground school for Private Pilot and Instrument using Gleim. Prior to that, she participated in the program along with her colleagues to learn the mechanical side of Aviation. After the completion of the aircraft , she will be attending Middle Georgia State University in Macon, Georgia to study Aviation Science and Management. " I'm so happy to gain the hands-on experience of building an airplane. I will still continue to further my studies in aviation and to become a pilot" She said

Abdul-Hafeez Onisarotu, 20 is from Lagos State, Nigeria. He has been fascinated with the Aviation industry for as long as he can remember. He attended Aviation Training Institute owned by Solomon Adio in Ile Ife, Osun state and obtained his diploma in Applied Aviation Science in the year 2013. He then furthered his aviation knowledge at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology where he obtained his Associate's Degree in Aviation Maintenence Technology and Airframe & Powerplant Certificate. " I am still furthering my studies in aviation and aspire to become a pilot." He said.

In the first two years, he obtained a diploma in Applied Aviation Science (AAS) and completed an online ground school program for Private Pilot using Gleim. In March 2017, he led a team that manufactured the first indigenous drone for Lagos State in collaboration with the school's affiliate Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu. "I am currently leading a team of 5 students in building our CH-750 aircraft factory in Mexico, Missouri USA. This has been a great learning experience for me and will be looking forward to the completion of the aircraft and use the opportunity to fly and share my experience with others." He said.
